Pandurang Shastri Athawale Ji Jayanti is observed on 19 October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandurang Vaijnath Shastri Athawale, popularly known as Dadaji. Born in 1920 in Roha, Maharashtra, he was a renowned philosopher, spiritual leader, and social reformer who founded the Swadhyaya Movement and Swadhyaya Parivar in 1954. Inspired by the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and other Hindu scriptures, he promoted self-study, devotion, social responsibility, and the belief in the divine presence within every individual. His work encouraged people to strengthen their spiritual values, serve their communities, and build social harmony beyond barriers of caste and background. He received several honours, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award and the Padma Vibhushan. His Jayanti is an occasion to remember his contributions to spiritual growth, community development, and social transformation.
