Virus Appreciation Day is observed annually on October 3 to encourage greater understanding of viruses and their role in biology, ecosystems and scientific research. While viruses are commonly associated with infectious diseases, studying them has contributed significantly to research in genetics, molecular biology, immunology and other areas of life science. The day provides an opportunity to promote scientific curiosity, public awareness and a balanced understanding of viruses, including their ability to infect humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. It can also be used to highlight the importance of disease prevention, research, surveillance and responsible health practices. Virus Appreciation Day is observed worldwide on October 3.
