World Alzheimer’s Day is observed annually on 21 September as the focal point of World Alzheimer’s Month, raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia while addressing stigma and discrimination. The day was launched by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) in 1994 and provides an opportunity for individuals, families, healthcare professionals, organisations and communities to promote greater understanding, support and awareness around dementia. In 2026, ADI’s campaign focuses on the importance of early diagnosis under the theme “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.” The campaign highlights how timely diagnosis can help people living with dementia, their carers and families access appropriate care, support and available treatment options.
