World Gratitude Day is observed annually on 21 September as an occasion to reflect on the importance of gratitude, appreciation and kindness in everyday life. The idea of World Gratitude Day emerged in 1965, with the observance encouraging people across different countries and communities to recognise the people, experiences and contributions they are thankful for. It provides an opportunity to express appreciation towards family, friends, colleagues, teachers, caregivers and others who make a positive difference in our lives. The day also encourages positive reflection, thoughtful gestures and stronger human connections by simply taking time to say “thank you” and acknowledge the good around us. In 2026, World Gratitude Day falls on Monday, 21 September.
