World Rivers Day is observed annually on the fourth Sunday of September to celebrate the world’s waterways, raise public awareness about the importance of rivers and encourage better stewardship and conservation. In 2026, World Rivers Day falls on Sunday, 27 September. The observance was established following the success of BC Rivers Day and was first celebrated internationally in 2005. It highlights the environmental, cultural and social value of rivers and encourages communities to take action to protect them. Activities can include river clean-ups, habitat restoration, educational programmes, nature walks, school projects and community celebrations. Create meaningful World Rivers Day posters and environmental awareness creatives with Publicity Poster to share river conservation messages across WhatsApp and social media.
